welcome back. by blueLudebar welcome back. by blueLudebar
When I was a kid, I treasured a small cylindrical jar, about the height of a thumb, filled with star-shaped confetti of all different colors. Those shiny stars could have decorated plenty of elementary school art projects, but didn't.

Nope. That confetti was expressly reserved for sprinkling from the windows when a boy and a band of oversized insects arrived in their giant peach.

Ohhh there are so many other silly things I used to do, like wear those handle-less umbrella hat contraptions and/or pretend to fight crime in the tennis courts on rollerblades. And there are so many silly things I STILL do, like getting sound legal advice from the clouds. It's reassuring to know that, in some ways, childhood isn't too terribly far behind you.

It's been ten years and that little jar is still full of stars. Maybe there are some dreams we must never surrender.

Your drawing is so warm. It reminds me of my childhood in the south of France ... Finally I adore the multitude of details! I would be said which I prefer. But I had the very favorite for the whale and his pianist.
Very nice piece in any case and congratulation for the first place even if that has to do a moment I think haha.

Love the layers and details. I love how one of the two kids has their back turned and the other is elated. Beautiful and I love that this piece was chosen for first.

Wow, I'm so sorry for the lateness of this reply! But thank you--so much. Both kids are the same person, one a nostalgic stranger to this world, and one who never left it.

When I was a kid I had a small plastic container with four separated sections. In one I kept a small car (size of a thumbnail roughly) and a small truck with it. In another I kept small badges I had earned from boy scouts and school. The third had scraps of paper that I had written important things on and the last had nothing. I like to think that the last one held my imagination and was a whole world all it's own. This picture really got my mind going, I think I will keep the thought in that fourth division =)

Ah wow, that's great! Like a Pandora's box of imagination. An interesting collection of small items and a mysterious empty compartment...it sounds like the start of a really good story. :D

Thanks so much for sharing this. I made this piece to remember a childhood world, and it's truly wonderful to hear about others.

Not gonna lie, the combination of the title, the song I'm listening to, the general feeling of the image and the story made me tear up a little bit. I'm such a nerd. /tucks herself in a corner
