Editorial illustration for "The Pink Pyramid Scheme", about Mary Kay cosmetics. The article is well-written and conveys the creeping sense of manipulation involved in this sales trap without condemning the women who fall into it. For some reason it inspired this image of a giant, sunken goddess. Pretty happy with how this turned out! Thanks to Luc Desmarchelier for the amazing assignment.

It's more of a "fuck off, this piece is totally unreal!" than anything else.

this is pretty freaky. i've had it sitting in my inbox for a few days now and it weirds me out to look at it.

for something that encapsulates the world through a rose tinted lens, and carries undertones of romanticism, there is a definite sense of the macabre here, perhaps a permutation of the world without the vie en rose. its somewhat unsettling.

That's just the effect I wanted! I'm glad, it's definitely meant to have something corrupt creeping in at the edges. Thanks so much.

Amazing detail and thought put into this! It's a little frightening but haunting and sad, too. The colours especially are unusual and well-chosen. Great job.

Yeah the colors were a bit of a struggle for being so strange--I usually don't gravitate towards either green or pink! But I'm really glad it worked out in the end for ya, thank you very much.

Interesting article. You're referencing the concept of rose colored glasses, right? Deep.
